By having such a large range of stride lengths allows you to have your workouts target different muscle groups with each adjustment. From almost a stepper stride all the way to a long and deep muscle stride.

This Schwinn 460 elliptical also has 16 levels of resistance and 16 workout programs which is hard to find on an elliptical that is under $1000 (which this one currently is- but please check for the latest pricing).
11 of the workout programs are profile workouts and have been created by a certified trainer from the Nautilus Institute.
