What to think about before buying a treadmill

It’s the New Year and we all want to to start it with a bang, and many of us will purchase a treadmill

Yep it seems as though we all plan on losing weight, getting fit, getting out of debt and spending more time with family, friends and loved ones. It all sounds good but how come in just a few short weeks we seem to give up on our resolutions?

But what does this have to do with purchasing a treadmill?

Well that’s easy – by purchasing the right treadmill you can

Lose weight

Get fit

Spend more time with loved ones

And while a treadmill won’t help you get out of debt, it can offset a gym membership and you can save both time and money by not having to drive to the gym.

How to find the right treadmill for your needs

With dozens and dozens of treadmill brands and models to choose your first step in choosing a treadmill is deciding on where you will put it. There is no sense looking at any treadmills until you know where you will be using it. Treadmills are quite large and even compact size treadmills can over power a small room. When you read the dimensions of the treadmill actually take a tape measure and measure out the floor space needed. Then add another 12 inches or more around this area. This will allow for movement in the treadmill over time and also will give room for arms and elbows while you workout.
Your treadmill will also need an electrical outlet unless you choose a manual treadmill.

Now that you have your space planned out, decide on whether you can leave your treadmill in that area all the time or if you need your space for something else while you are not working out. If you find that you need your space while you are not working out, then a folding treadmill should be the type of treadmill that you will want. If you have a space that you can dedicate for your workouts, then you can either choose a folding or a stationary treadmill.

Cost. Be sure to set the amount that you can spend upfront. Once you start looking at treadmills and see some for $3500, a $2000 treadmill might not seem expensive, but can you really afford $2,000? If you have your budget planned ahead of time you won’t get distracted by expensive treadmills that you may not be able to afford. With the economy in a downturn the last few years and competition in the home fitness field getting stronger, prices have dropped on fitness equipment and you will find that you money will go much further now than it did just a few years ago. Even budget priced treadmills have some of the same features that top of the line ones had a few short years ago – so don’t be discouraged if your budget is small.

Now that you know the size of your treadmill, whether it should be folding or stationary and how much we want to spend the next step is to decide on some of the features.

Do you get workout boredom? If you are one who tends to get bored with doing the same workouts month after month you will want to look for a treadmill that has iFit or iFit Live. With iFit you can purchase additional workouts as you need them. Many treadmills that have iFit already come with several workouts that can keep you busy for weeks and months but with iFit you can continually add new programs as you progress.
iFit live is the ultimate in fitness workouts. With iFit Live in addition to adding more workouts to your routine you can race against online friends, track your progress, customize your fitness plan, do workout that you create by using Google Maps, and you can even have your treadmill simulate virtually any course. Once you decide on your course, your treadmill wlil take care of the rest. Some treadmills are iFit Live compatible while others have the iFit Live device attached.
To learn more about iFit and iFit Live just visit –> iFit Live

Are you a runner, jogger or a walker? If you plan on using your treadmill just for walking then the length of the walking surface is not as important as it would be if you planned on using your treadmill to run or jog. If you do plan on running you should look for a treadmill that can accommodate your running stride. Most runners will want a running surface of about 55″. If you have long legs or a long stride you’ll want to find a treadmill with a 60″ running surface. If you plan on using your treadmill to walk into shape, then then length of the running surface is not as important.

Cushioning of the running surface has come a long way over the years and you will find that almost every treadmill now has a cushioned surface. If you plan on running on your treadmill look for adjustable cushioning that you can customize for your stride.

Incline and Speed. Being able to change the incline and the speed of your treadmill is a great way to continually push your body forward. Almost all treadmills now-a-days have variable speed and incline modes with most giving you the option to adjust manually in addition to adjusting automatically with your workout program. Most treadmills incline to about 12% and have speeds up to 10 MPH. If you want a steeper incline or faster speeds you’ll probably pay a premium. If you have a choice of two treadmills and the main difference is whether your treadmill can incline higher or go faster ask yourself if you will really run more than 10 MPH or want to walk a steep incline. 10MPH is pretty fast for most of us.

Workout Programs. This is one feature of newer treadmills that have really improved over the years. In years past a treadmill would come with 5 or so workout programs ans that is what you go – just 5 different workouts. Now most treadmills have several programs and inside each program are adjustments that can be made to customize them even more. This gives you a wider range of workout options.

ShippingYour Treadmill. Is shipping included in the price of your treadmill? Even if you plan on purchasing your treadmill from a local merchant getting your treadmill home can be a hassle. Unless you have a pick up truck and at least 2 people, you’ll find that getting your treadmill home is best done by having it shipped.
Then when it is shipped you have a few choices.

You can have curbside delivery where you treadmill will be delivered to the front of your residence by the curb and then you will have to bring it in.

Inside delivery. Inside delivery will cost a bit more but if you have a bad back, no one to help you move the treadmill or live in an apartment and you have to climb stars then inside delivery is worth the additional charge. The price ranges for $75 to about $99 and you may even find that there is a sale and inside delivery is free.

Room delivery. This is where the treadmill is brought directly to the room of your choice. The cost for room delivery is often $125 or so.

Delivery and set up. Many treadmill manufacturers offer delivery and set up as an option. This is the costliest but is often well worth the charge. Expect to pay $150 or more but you will have the experts deliver your treadmill and put it together for you. On your own putting together a treadmill isn’t difficult and you can normally do it in under two hours but if you are not mechanically inclined or have a hard time reading instructions then this is your best bet.

Warranty. This is one of the most important features of your treadmill! The longer the warranty the longer you are protected against defects, but you also should see how your treadmill is covered by the warranty. Does the treadmill have in-home service? If it doesn’t, it does mean that you will either have to pay extra to have a repair person come to your home or will have to ship your treadmill back to the manufacturer. When ever possible try to look for in-home service. While you may need a repair person it will give you peace of mind knowing that you won’t have to box your treadmill up. Most major brands do have in-home service.
You will also find that major brands also have a longer warranty and cover more of your treadmill than an off-the-wall brand.
Brands such as Proform, Sole Treadmills, Smooth Fitness and LiveStrong Fitness have comprehensive warranties and are known for their quality.

So which brand of treadmill is the best? As mentioned right above there are several excellent brands to choose from and this guide isn’t meant to convince you to buy one over the other. Each manufacturer has done their best to give you a great selection of quality treadmills to choose from.
What really matters is you. What you do want from your treadmill? If you have gone through the above information and have taken little notes when you read through each section then you are now ready to go treadmill shopping.

Take your time. Look at your choices and match them up against your budget, living space, wants and needs. Then one by one eliminate treadmills until you have found one that fits your criteria. Once you do this you will find that you will be more satisfied with your purchase and will be more apt to stick to your workouts and reach your fitness goals.

While there are many treadmill brands to choose from you will more than likely not have to look any further than these great choices. Proform, Sole Treadmills, Smooth Fitness and LiveStrong Fitness

LIVESTRONG Fitness LS13.0T Treadmill

The LIVESTRONG Fitness LS13.0T Treadmill has a combination of features that both the new treadmill fitness user and the experienced treadmill user will most certainly appreciate.
LIVESTRONG Fitness LS13.0T Treadmill

One of the arguments that some fitness runners will state is that most treadmills have a short running surface so you are not able to fully stretch your legs in a natural sprinting motion and when you do stretch out you can either fall of the back end or hit your shins on the front plate.

However, the LIVESTRONG Fitness LS13.0T Treadmill has a long 60″ running surface (not deck size but actual running length) and the width is a full 20″ wide. Both the length and width allows a natural swaying motion that a runner or sprinter may have.

That does mean that your treadmill footprint will be larger than a compact sized treadmill (9″L X 36″W X 58″H) but if you want to get the most out of your workouts, the few extra inches in the length is more than worth it.

The spacious running surface also has Max Comfort cushioning system to help reduce the impact on your joints. Many people overlook the amount and type of cushioning that a treadmill has and jump to the number of workout programs or if the treadmill has a cooling fan. However, if you are serious about your workouts and you want to be comfortable while you are using your treadmill today in addition to avoiding some of the damage to your joints that you will feel as you grow older, then the cushioning should be one of the first items that you read about on a treadmill that you may be considering.

Since LIVESTRONG Fitness has created a video to show and explain to you some of the top features of this treadmill, I will let them (the experts) give you this information.

So sit back, relax and watch this short (under 2 minutes) video.
If you prefer, you can go directly to LIVESTRONG Fitness and see all of the details and information (they also have the video right on the product page) by clicking here –>LIVESTRONG Fitness LS13.0T Treadmill

Treadmill Workouts Can Help To Burn Fat and Calories

Do you want to lose weight or you want to tone your body and welcome a new season with a healthy and slim figure?
If you want to do both then there is no better way than to do some exercises on a treadmill.

Dieting or not, it has been known that exercise is the best way to lose fat. That way, you can lose those unwanted flabs and those extra pounds without undergoing difficult diets that you cannot maintain.

One way to tone your body so is to enroll in a gym for regular exercise routines. Being in a gym lets you use many of the gym exercise and body toning equipment.

However, not everybody is inclined to go to the gym for workout. Many would rather exercise on their own right at their own homes. If you want to exercise but would like the convenience of doing it at home, then the best option for you is to buy your own treadmill A treadmill does not take up much space in the house and having one of your own enables you to exercise anytime you want.

A treadmill is a good investment because it can increase your health and fitness levels and once you have one in your home you are free to work out whenever you have a few minutes.

With your own treadmill, you can do treadmill workouts everyday. A few minutes every day would surely give you a well toned body plus loads of energy to do your daily tasks. While most people believe that unless you exercise for at least 45 minutes in one session it’s not worth exercising however, research has shown that by exercising several times a day in short bursts is just as effective for increasing your fitness level as a full 45 minute session.

Some even believe that by spacing out your daily workout to 5 minutes here and there that you may actually burn more calories.

So don’t underestimate short exercise sessions!

A treadmill lasts for many years so you can be assured that your treadmill investment will not go to waste. Get that body toned and buy a treadmill today.

The Sole TT8 Treadmill

The Sole TT8 treadmill is the finest treadmill in the Sole treadmill line and Sole has an outstanding reputation for quality, customer service and innovation.

The Sole TT8 is built to last and has a powerful continuous duty 3.5 HP motor. This powerful motor doesn’t just give you smooth jerk free workouts, but it can also accommodate a user weight of 425 pounds.

A continuous duty motor compared to a standard HP motor means that the motor can sustain use at the highest level continuously, while the standard motor can hit the
highest speeds and incline but is not meant to keep at these high levels during your entire workout or for very long periods of time.

The TT in the Sole TT8 treadmill stands for 22″ wide running surface. When checking stats on treadmills you must remember that the deck size is not the running size. For example the deck size on this treadmill is 32 X 80, while the running surface is a full 22 X 60.

Many descriptions will mention the deck size but the most important factor is the running surface itself. A 22″ wide running surface gives you enough room for a natural swaying motion while you run and the length is long enough to be able to stretch out while you run without fear of falling off of the back of the treadmill.

Sole TT8 treadmill Additional Highlights

The Sole TT8 treadmill has speeds that go up to 12 MPH and incline to a maximum of 15%.
There are 10 workout programs ( 2 programs that you can create, 6 standard programs, and 2 heart rate programs). It has hand pulse grips and heart rate control with a wireless chest strap that is included. There are cooling fans in the console along with a bright red LED display readout.

The Sole TT8 treadmill might not sound like a glamorous treadmill like one that may have a built in television or symphonic audio system, but if your are looking for a treadmill that will perform day in and day out, year after year giving you what you need most in a treadmill (performance) then the Sole TT8 is a treadmill that you should consider.

Sole treadmills backs up it’s quality products with the following comprehensive warranty

Residential Use Limited Warranty:
Motor – Lifetime
Deck - Lifetime
Frame – Lifetime
As a fundamental form of aerobic training, walking has numerous physical benefits for the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, while also increasing muscle tone and burning fat calories. Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home. From beginners just starting an exercise regimen to advanced athletes looking to maintain their fitness level, anyone interested in getting and staying in shape can benefit greatly from regular use of a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to determine the pace, distance, and complexity of the workout based on your needs, all while watching television, talking on the telephone, or reading a magazine. Much easier on sensitive joints like the knees and hips, treadmill walking and running surfaces are typically long, padded platforms that allow ample room for a long stride and comfortable, low-impact walk or jog without the harsh contact of a concrete surface. While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.<td></tr></table>

Exercising when you have a small apartment

Having a small apartment does not have to stop you from exercising.

There are many different exercises that you can do in a small apartment. You can easily do the basic sit-ups to being more creative and do shadow boxing.

Exercises for a small apartment or a smaller condo or dorm room are easier if you have a space set to working out in. If you feel like you don’t have enough space in your apartment to workout, try organizing your apartment and create a place to keep your exercise things.

Stretching and working on your flexibility is easy in a small apartment when you create your exercise area. You can set up a yoga mat and use this place to stretch your muscles. You can use this space to work your abs, doing crunches and sit ups. Even do the favorite push-ups and jumping-jacks. Organizing your apartment and keeping it clean is key to being able to exercise in your small apartment. When it is clean and organized your apartment will feel bigger and give you more freedom to move around.

If you would like to use equipment, there are several different stationary exercise equipment types to choose from that make it easy to exercise inside your home or apartment. Elliptical, treadmills and stationary bikes can give you a great workout and don’t take up too much space. Other equipment, such as the Bowflex, do take up some space but not as much as other indoor exercise equipment.

Exercises for small apartments don’t have to take up a lot of room. There are many different things you can do to make working out in an apartment easy. Opting for workout DVD’s is a great way to exercise indoors. There are many different options to choose from. You can easily do yoga and Pilates, kick boxing or step aerobics indoors. Free weights don’t take up a lot of room and you can use them in many different ways. Resistance bands can be used anywhere in the apartment. Pull-up bars are easy to install in a doorway and are a great workout.

You can easily turn your small apartment into your home gym. Free weights, resistant bands and pull-up bars are easy to store and don’t take up much room. Using DVD’s and yoga mats can expand your apartment and allow you to have all the different workouts that you want. Exercises for a small apartment are easy to do if you are creative and organized.

So many people ask ” can I lose weight by using a treadmill?” and the answer is Yes!

We all would like to lose weight. But there are some things that stand in the way. Gym memberships can be expensive, our schedules get in the way more than we would like and sometimes there are times when we just forget to work out. Plain & simple.

Having a treadmill does cost money, but with all the money that you would be spending on a gym membership and gas to drive to the gym, you could afford to purchase a treadmill in a year or so, depending on the model. Owning a treadmill will cut out many of the excuses of not working out and losing weight, so start exercising now ( well you can start right after you get the ok from your doctor).

Treadmills allow you to set your own pace. You could walk, jog or even run on a treadmill. Walking is great for you. Many people when they first start on the quest of losing weight have a hard time sticking with a rigorous exercise regimen.

Walking is the perfect way to begin your goal to lose weight on the treadmill. You should begin your routine walking at a pace that is comfortable for you and slowly increasing the speed. When you work your way up to speed walking, the calories will seem to fly off.

Walking at a faster speed than at a leisure pace is great for you if you can maintain the speed for longer periods of time. You will burn more calories and lose more weight than in just walking 10 minutes at a slower pace.

If you don’t have an hour a day to spend speed walking, you could try 30 minutes of part walking and part jogging. Find a pace that is very comfortable for you while jogging since you would need to maintain the speed for around 15 minutes. If you Speed walk for 15 minutes, you will warm up your body. After walking, jog for another 15 minutes. You will work your heart, and build up endurance which helps you to lose weight even faster.

If you’re ready to start running on a treadmill, you only need to run about 10 minutes a day to lose a lot of weight. You should warm your body up first by walking for 5 minutes before you start running. The longer you maintain a fast speed running, the more weight you will lose.

Can you really burn fat by using a treadmill?

With treadmills becoming more popular for home use many people are wondering if they should get one if they want to burn some fat. There are those who say that you can’t burn fat by just walking and that you need to weight train or do some type of aerobics to get your cardio up and your heart pumping.

Now who is to say that you can do this on a treadmill?
Have you used any of the newer treadmills?
Many have speeds that are faster then they were in the past and also many treadmills incline to make you work harder while you are working out.

Have you ever tried to walk at a 5 MPH speed while your treadmill is set to a 20% incline?
If so then you know that it is one heck of a workout. Within the first few minutes you find yourself breathing much harder, you begin to sweat and you can definitely feel your heart rate rise.

You can also use hand weights while you want if you want to do some upper body work while your lower body is working out.

There are also some people that like to wear a weighted walking vest while on a treadmill for the added workout that they get and then as they get more fit they can add additional weights to the vest. If you have thought about getting a weighted vest look at one that is at the 20 pound level and one that allows you to add as little or as many weights up to the 20 pounds.

Many allow you to start off by just wearing the vest for a workout, and then as your progress you can add in additional weights at 2 pounds each time ( that would be pound on each side). Although 2 pounds may not sound like much it starts to add up and you really start to feel it at the 10 pound level.

There are some vests that can hold up to 150 pounds but it does take quite a long time (if ever) for you to read that level. Usually bodybuilders can tolerate the added weight but a walker or runner can’t.

For several more great tips watch the video below. It is one of my personal favorites (and no I don’t get anything for recommending it to you – I just like it.
